Documentary · 2021 · production design
Forty years into the AIDS epidemic in Brazil, seven artists and one activist doctor — all living with HIV — use dance, performance and poetry to confront serophobia and propose new images of life with the virus. Vinicius Couto was the film's production designer.
The documentary won Best Film and the Audience Award at Queer Porto 2021, screened at festivals including Olhar de Cinema, IDFA (Amsterdam) and Mix Brasil, and opened in Brazilian cinemas on December 1, 2022 — World AIDS Day.
“By unsettling so many certainties in its audience, Deus tem AIDS is an extremely necessary film for all Brazilians.”
