chempassion

chempassion is a video by Gustavo Vinagre and Vinicius Couto commissioned by Visual AIDS (New York) for Day With(out) Art 2025: Meet Us Where We're At — six commissions by artists from around the world about the experiences of people who use drugs and harm reduction in the HIV crisis.

From the official program description: in the magical-realist film chempassion, a gay man reminisces about his orgy days and chemsex, contemplating what the future holds for himself and his close relationships.

It premiered at the Whitney Museum, New York, on November 30, 2025, with a post-screening conversation featuring Vinicius Couto; from December 1–15 the program circulated through more than one hundred institutions worldwide — among them the Queens Museum, the Yale Center for British Art and the MCA Chicago. The work was later expanded into the feature The Passion According to G.H.B. (2026).
